What Will We Learn In First Grade?
We will learn strategies that good readers use while reading. Students will practice these strategies by reading books on their own level, listening to read aloud's, and reading with each other.
We will learn how to write stories that tell about our life, how to form an opinion and tell why we feel this way, and write stories with facts and information.
We will learn a variety of sight words, letters and letter sounds, how to sound out words, rhyming words, word families and much more.
Students will work in a small group of 5/6 students and the teacher, to read stories that are at their instructional reading level. Topics and concepts taught during small group will vary throughout the school year. During our reading group time, students will work at independent learning stations to review concepts being taught.
Our math standards are broken into four strands; Number Sense and Base Ten, Algebraic Thinking and Operations, Geometry, Measurement and Data. Students will work in a small group of 5/6 students and the teacher, to learn math concepts at their instructional level. We will learn about our Earth, plants, the sun and moon, light, and shadows.
We will learn important concepts about our government, country, and community.
