School Improvement Council

Purpose

The purpose of the South Carolina School Improvement Council (SC-SIC) is to promote civic engagement and support quality public education in the state. The SC-SIC does this by providing resources, training, and accountability to local School Improvement Councils (SICs).

SICs are mandated by law to exist in every public school in South Carolina. They are made up of parents, educators, community members, and students who work together to improve their local school. Some examples of SIC initiatives include:

  • Improving parent communication
  • Promoting health and wellness
  • Improving reading, science, and math scores
  • Helping with behavioral issues
  • Advocating for equity of school funding
